30 Classic Childhood Games

These just bring back memories:

I found this fascinating quote today:

Red Rover: Divide everyone into two teams, each forming a long line, holding hands, facing the other team. The two teams should be around 20 or so feet apart. The teams take turn calling out, “Red Rover, Red Rover, let <insert child’s name> come over!” That child leaves their team’s line, runs as fast as they can toward the other line and tries to break through the held hands. If they break through, they get to take someone back to their team. If they don’t, they join the new team. When a team only has one person left, that person tries to break through the other team. If they do not, then their team loses. If they do, they gain a player and play continues. Number of Players: Any decent size group. Pantone Rainbow by Bates 141

Pantone Rainbow by Bates 141
Title: Pantone Rainbow
Art direction by: Bates 141

This Pantone rainbow was a promotion designed by Bates 141 for a Basheer Graphic Books campaign on a college campus. The goal was to convince college students and faculty that "Pantone has the most color selection for their printing guidance". So they created a 8 x 4.5 meter rainbow made of more than 5,000 Pantone color chips and placed it in the middle of the campus. This is a truly clever advertising campaign that was both well thought out and well executed. Campaigns like this attract attention and help spread the word about companies or products much quicker than conventional methods.

A Little Bit Overboard?

Live Facebooking Happening in NYC Storefront
Wed, 08/19/2009, by: geeksugar

Famed NYC department store Henri Bendel wasn't satisfied to simply tweet that it had launched an official Twitter page and Facebook profile, no no.

Instead of coming quietly into the modern age, Bendel's has installed a young woman in its store window, reclining with her laptop and updating the Bendel Twitter and Facebook pages, respectively.

If you're in the city, go by and check out the live social networking updating; if you're not in the city, then make like the rest of us geeks and check out the Twitter and Facebook pages!

She Dares To Bare Her Legs

Michelle Obama Dares To Bare Her Legs!
http://www.thefrisky.com/post/246-shortsgate-michelle-obama-dares-to-bare-her-legs/#When:14:20:39Z?eref=RSS
"Oh holy hell. First Lady Michelle Obama has caught some flack for daring to wear shorts while on vacation with her family at the Grand Canyon in 100+ degree heat. (Emphasis all mine because I cannot fathom the absurdity.) This morning on “The Today Show,” The Washington Post‘s Robin Givhan and Mary Tomer, author of the upcoming book Mrs. O: The Face Of Fashion Democracy, discussed the brouhaha over Mrs. O wearing above-the-knee (GASP!) shorts. Apparently, some see this as her, I dunno, giving the middle finger to propriety and tradition since the look is so casual. The whole thing made me mega-stabby, especially since Lauer can’t help but acknowledge how ridiculous it is that they are even discussing the topic. If Obama had been wearing, say, a khaki skirt, would people have cared to comment? If the shorts had been below the knee, would that have been OK, or would the chatter then be about her looking frumpy? Also, isn’t there, like, a health-care debate going on?"

The Dead Photos by: Tom Phillips

Meantime we shall express our darker purpose.
Give me the map there. Know that we have divided
In three our kingdom: and 'tis our fast intent
To shake all cares and business from our age;
Conferring them on younger strengths, while we
Unburthen'ed crawl toward death.
- King Lear, Act I

Creative LEGO Ads

Though this is an older ad campaign, it's one that I absolutely had to share. From the agency Blattner Brunner, it asks you to imagine what these simple block formations mean. Using shadows, they tell us that it's simply our imagination that makes these blocks come alive and, that through our experience, we can see anything through them. Did you notice that the background colors were chosen to signify the sea (blue) or land (green)? Or that the airplane is hovering while the other three blocks are set firmly on the ground? Advertising doesn't get as simple (or as meaningful) as this.

Photo-hog....actually... Photo-Squirrel

Melissa Brandts and her husband were exploring Lake Minnewanka in Banff National Park, Canada, when they stopped to take a timed photograph of themselves.
They had their camera set up on some rocks and were getting ready to take the picture when this curious little ground squirrel appeared, became intrigued with the sound of the focusing camera and popped right into the shot.

Kathy Griffin's Mom Manages her "Faceplace"

Kathy Griffin's Mom Manages Her "Faceplace"
Tue, 08/04/2009 by geeksugar

I don't know if you're familiar with the hilarity that is My Life on the D List, but during the latest season, I've been more and more impressed with Kathy Griffin's online domination. Not only is she all over Twitter, but she's got a pretty active Facebook page. Or should I say "Faceplace"
In a recent episode, Kathy "hired" her mom Maggie to manage her Facebook page. Hilarity ensues as Maggie tries to navigate the social site.

Pet and Laptop Backpack

PetEgo Pet at Work Travel System is the First Dog Laptop Bag
dog laptop bag1dog laptop bag2
Over the years we have seen laptop bags and backpacks of all shapes, sizes, and styles, but this is the first time we’ve come across a pet carrier designed to also be a laptop bag. And it’s certainly about time too! I’ve personally been in the precarious situation of having to travel while holding my pup in her carrier and my laptop in a separate bag. And it would be much more pleasant if I could just carry both of my babies in just one single case. The ultimate solution for this dilemma is the Pet at Work Travel System by PetEgo, which is designed to carry small pets on your back like a backpack or by holding its handle. It features a foldable pet dome and soft crate with a soft double sided comfort mat. Plus, on the inside there is a special compartment to keep your laptop snug too. The Pet at Work Travel System retails for $178 and comes in black or tan.

Red Bull Backlash...

Red Bull Backlash: “Slow Cow” Beverage
By: Leonora Epstein
Source: The Frisky
slow cow beverage
Slow Cow may look like one of those Red Bull-type energy drinks that line the shelves of America’s convenience stores, but it’s the exact opposite. The Canadian beverage claims to slow your roll via the a main ingredient, L-Theanine, an amino acid that relaxes, but doesn’t induce sleepiness. Slow Cow also claims that this miracle element reduces anxiety, clears your mind, and can even help symptoms of PMS. Americans, however, are so accustomed to the go, go, go of coffee culture that it’s difficult to imagine a trend of “mellow drinks.” After all, we can think of some, ahem, other things that do that for you.
